As we all know with pandemic setting in, the years 2020 and 2021 are gloomy and melancholic. And we all also know the only way to beat the virus is to wear masks, keep yourself away from the crowds. With all these on mind, my only escape was to drive to a nearby lake and take a stroll!

1. Take a Stroll to catch the Sunrise/Sunset

Each one of us have a personal preference in choosing either Sunrise or Sunset and most often than not atleast one of the two intrigues us as humans! I personally love both equally and have a very hard time choosing one over the other! High-five to those of you who agree with me on this!

Lakes magnify the beauty of sunrises and sunsets, thus make it a best choice of time for anyone to drive.

Pro-tip: Always time your drive around Sunrise/Sunset to maximize your chances of coming back happier than you would otherwise!

2. Fishing — I am no PRO

Another interesting activity you can do at a lake is FISHING! I can start talking about it but if you take a close look at the picture below, you will notice how I don’t know anything about Fishing! Yes, well I am a vegeterian so nevermind! This is definitely a fun activity for families, friends or even solo visiters.

Pro-tip: After reading those above lines, you should not consider my tips on fishing at all, but as a note I bought the first search result that popped up for fishing rod on Amazon!

3. BYOB(Bring Your Own Beverage) — Coffee!

This is the most interesting of all and one of my favourites. Most lakes which are within any city limits have a starbucks or two in the vicinity to grab a hot latte. During the pandemic I drove to ones which were farther from the city limits and we struggled to find a good place to buy drinks from, that is when I started carrying my own!

Pro-tip: Carry your drink in insulated containers to keep the hot ones hot and the cold ones cold!

4. Kayaking/Canoeing

What is more soothing than the calmness of a lake and the slow breeze when you are out Kayaking or Canoeing? Most places offer activities such as Kayaks, research the nearby places that offer one of these activities and plan a weekend drive to soak yourself in the calmness of the lake! In today’s fast paced lives, this activity teaches you the effect of slowing and calming yourself down and certainly helps you let go off your stress. It also is a nice upper body exercise, brace yourself for it!

Pro-tip: Choose a day or time when it is less windy and moderately sunny as wind can cause water currents and makes your activity very risky!

5. Photoshoots!

There is something magical in lakes and its ablility to reflect anything and everything making them the perfect destination for photoshoots! If you are planning for a photo shoot for any ocassion, your next destination has to be a still water lake! Sometimes you may spot tiny little squirrels like I did or ducklings, tortoises or any other animal which can become the subject of your photos or maybe the background in one of your photos!

Pro-tip: Stay away from the animals or birds if you are clicking pictures of them, give them enough space and do not suffocate their personal space!

I hope this gives you enough interesting ideas on what activities to do at a lake and also motivates you to drive to one now! Happy exploring!
